When most people think of Morocco, they picture sweeping desert dunes, bustling spice markets, and intense desert heat. Skiing usually doesn't make the list. But on Episode 3 of the ALPINR World Tour, we set out to prove that adventure can be found in the most unexpected places.
As part of our epic 300-day journey across all seven continents, our stop in Africa took us from the vibrant, chaotic heart of Marrakesh deep into the snow-covered peaks of the High Atlas Mountains.
If you haven’t watched the episode yet, catch the full video below and read on for a behind-the-scenes breakdown of an unforgettable African adventure!
Diving Into the Chaos of Marrakesh
Our Moroccan journey began the moment we touched down in Marrakesh. To truly experience a culture, you have to dive headfirst into it, and there is no better place to do that than the Medina.
We spent our first days completely immersed in the beautiful chaos of the city. We navigated the maze-like crowded markets, bargained with local street vendors, and treated our tastebuds to some of the incredible food Morocco has to offer. From late nights under the city lights to the rich aromas of tagine and mint tea, Marrakesh was unlike anywhere the ALPINR crew had ever been.
But as much as we loved the energy of the city, the snow was calling.

Journeying Into the Atlas Mountains
Leaving the bustling streets behind, we loaded up our gear and headed toward the horizon, where the massive Atlas Mountains tower over the landscape.
Our route took us through the mountain towns of Imlil and Tamatert, where the landscape completely shifted from dusty lowlands to rugged, steep valleys. Eventually, we reached Tacheddirt- a remote, ancient Berber mountain village surrounded by massive, snow-covered peaks.

More Than Just Skiing: Culture and Community
While the goal was to ski Africa, this episode quickly became about something much deeper: connection, travel, and seeing the world from a completely different perspective.
Living and traveling in these remote mountain communities allowed us to connect with incredible local guides and families. The hospitality of the Berber people is legendary, and experiencing their way of life—high up in a mountain range most tourists never fully explore—was a humbling and eye-opening experience.
And yes, we actually got to click into our skis and snowboards in Africa! Dropping into lines with a backdrop of terracotta-colored villages and vast African valleys is a memory none of us will ever forget.
